General Information


Please arrive in good time for the start of the first round.  There is no need to register on arrival.


Welcome at 09:20 on Saturday 27th January from Mr Robert Upton, Headmaster of Yateley Manor


Prize Giving 17:30 or later on Saturday 27th January (U7 event only) and Sunday 28th January (all other events)

Under 7

Round Times:

Saturday            10:00, 11:10, 12:20, 13:50, 15:00, 16:10

Time control:    All moves in 30 minutes


Under 8

Round Times:

Sunday              10:00, 11:10, 12:20, 13:50, 15:00, 16:10

Time control:    All moves in 30 minutes


Under 9 & Under 10

Round Times:

Saturday            9:30, 12:20, 15:10

Sunday              9:30, 12:20, 15:10

Time control:    All moves in 75 minutes


Under 11, Under 13 & Under 15

Round Times:

Saturday            9:30, 13:00, 16:30

Sunday              10:00, 13:30

Time control:    30 moves in 1 hour + 30 minutes to finish

Ages are taken as of 31st August 2017 (at the start of the school year).  Quick section calculator as follows:


U7 - Year 2 and below

U8 - Year 3 and below

U9 - Year 4 and below

U10 - Year 5 and below

U11 - Year 6 and below

U13 - Year 8 and below

U15 - Year 10 and below

Entry Fees & Prizes


U7, U8:

Entry Fee: £14

Trophy prizes for first four places


U9, U10:

Entry Fee: £18

Prizes: 1st £100, 2nd £50, 3rd £40, 4th £30


U11, U13, U15:

Entry fee: £18

Prizes: 1st £120, 2nd £75, 3rd £40, 4th £30


£2 discount on entry fees for ECF members.  Please give ECF membership number and deduct discount when paying.  Discount only available at time of entry.  No refunds will be given.


Late entry supplement of £5 applies from Thursday 25th January 2018.  No registrations accepted on the day!


A Best Girl trophy will be awarded in every age section


The Under 11 tournament is a Qualifier for the England Junior Squad Trials


The winner of the Under 13 & Under 15 will qualify for the U14 & U16 2019 English Closed Championship


All events count towards the ECF Youth Grand Prix


All events are ECF graded





Once again we will have a bookstall available throughout the event run by Tim Onions.  Tim stocks chess sets and equipment, books and tournament stationery . He specialises in books and supplies for the younger chess player.

Information supplied on the entry form may be held on a computer for the purpose of national grading, plus selected games and photographs of the event may be used to publicise this and future events.
